How Deadpool 2 Breaks The X-Men Movie Timeline AGAIN

One of the best things about Deadpool's movies so far is their awareness of the existing X-Men timeline and the willingness the character has shown to poke fun at (or be jealous of) the other movies in the franchise. Deadpool being aware that he's part of the franchise (but also partially sidelined as a secondary - and problematic - character) is at the root of lots of the two movies' comedy - particularly in terms of his relationship with Hugh Jackman and Wolverine.

Unfortunately, trying to work out the precise relationship between Deadpool and those other movies' characters is incredibly confusing. On the one hand, we're encouraged to think of him the same way Logan exists - as an annex of the main timeline - but there are also lots of hints that it IS the same universe. When Fox have done so much to confuse the chronology and throw in alternate dimension concerns, it's no surprise that it's all as clear as mud.

But it's not just where in the multiverse Deadpool 2 takes place, it's the time-setting that is even more problematic, thanks to one of the film's best moments. Let's get into it...

4. So, When Is Deadpool 2 Set

Some might say that Deadpool's actual setting on the timeline could be pretty fluid, but there are some fairly firm indicators in there of it being set in the present day.

Not only does it have no signs of a period setting the way the First Class timeline movies all do of their periods, but it has to have followed Green Lantern and X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

On top of that, Deadpool references dubstep and Skrillex plays when he does and the film also has to come out after Logan for 'Pool to be able to reference it. But there's a bit of a problem with it being set in the modern day, because of one very specific cameo-filled moment...
