Huge Rumour - JJ Abrams To Direct Superman And Green Lantern Movies?
Could the Star Trek and Star Wars director be set to tackle two of DC's greatest heroes?
It’s a bird… it’s a plane… it’s a huge rumour surrounding Warner Brothers’ DC movie properties!
Take this with a large dollop of salt right now, but Cosmic Book News is reporting that J.J. Abrams recent multi-million-dollar deal with Warners will see him direct individual movies for both Superman and Green Lantern.
For the last little while, there has been talk that The WB is looking to reboot its Superman property with a new actor donning the famed cape – even though Henry Cavill is contracted for one more outing as the Man of Steel. And, of course, Warner Bros. has had a Green Lantern Corps. movie spinning its wheels in development hell for the past several years as the studio’s DC Extended Universe hasn’t been as well received as they’d hoped.
If Abrams is indeed being lined up to tackle The Last Son of Krypton, this wouldn’t be the first time that he’s had Super-ambitions. Back in the early 2000s, J.J. actually wrote a script for a Superman: Flyby movie that ultimately didn’t end up happening.
What we know for sure, then, is that J.J. Abrams is a fan of the Superman character, that he is indeed now tied to a Warner Brothers contract, and that Warners is for sure looking to develop new outings for Supes and the Emerald Knight(s).
The one issue here, though, is that Cosmic Book News is often a little hit and miss with its stories. So, as mentioned, treat this all purely as speculation until anything more concrete comes of any of this.
In the meantime, up next for Abrams is another venture to a galaxy far, far away when Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hits screens this December.
