'I, PI' with my little eye, something beginning with McG...
Director-producer McG (Charlie's Angels, Terminator Salvation) is joining forces with writer-producer Paul Scheuring (Prison Break) for a new ABC TV series called I, PI. McG is likely to direct the pilot, which concerns a private investigator whose professional knowledge only comes from watching old TV detective shows like Magnum, P.I. While a partnership between the men responsible for Prison Break and Charlie's Angels might not sound that promising on paper, it's worth remembering that Scheuring's involvement in Prison Break was limited to the creative peak of its first two years; and McG's track-record in TV is arguably better than his movie career, having executive-produced the likes of Chuck (the pilot of which he also directed), The OC, Supernatural, Human Target, and the upcoming Nikita remake. Incidentally, the premise of I, PI reminds me an unaired TV pilot from 1991 called Lookwell (written by a pre-chat show Conan O'Brien and Robert Smigel), starring Adam West as a washed-up actor who once played a sleuth on TV and mistakenly believes that qualifies him to help the cops investigate real crimes. You can watch the entire pilot below, actually: But it perhaps has stronger similarities to Andy_Barker, P.I (starring Andy Richter, sidekick of Conan O'Brien, co-creator of Lookwell) and HBO's Bored To Death (starring Jason Schwartzman as a novelist with writers' block who fills his time by indulging his love of Raymond Chandler novels and playing gumshoe).
