Incredibles 2 Review: 6 Ups & 3 Downs
A (mostly) terrific superhero sequel.
Incredibles 2 is out now in UK cinemas, and the easy consensus is that it's a more-than-worthy sequel to Brad Bird's immensely popular 2004 animated superhero classic.
Though the film falls just a touch short of its predecessor in a few key areas, it is nevertheless a brilliantly crafted, hilarious and heartfelt follow-up that's very much worth the ridiculous near-15-year wait.
It's hard to imagine many fans of the original not falling in love with this rarest of superhero sequels that doesn't just feel like a perfunctory, studio-mandated cash-grab, but a film made because there was actually a compelling story to tell (for the most part). And the money's nice too, of course.
Though Pixar's hot streak of five-star pictures ended long ago, Incredibles 2 is still a wonderful reminder of what the studio is capable of when they're favouring imagination and ideas over, well, selling lunchboxes (looking at you, Cars 2).
Bring on Incredibles 3, and please don't make fans wait another 14 years for it...
