Ingmar Bergman, one of the most influential directors in the history of cinema has passed away aged 89 says the BBC. The legendary Swedish film-maker directed over 60 films (if you include television) and was nominated for nine Oscars himself whilst his films won three Best Foreign film Oscars. Personally, I've seen very few of his films but Fanny and Alexander, Persona, The Serpent's Egg and of course the legendary movie The Seventh Seal are truly breathtaking films and one's which you truly shouldn't go through life without seeing. There are many, many special editions DVDs of the man and his films, some of which I shall endeavour to pick up in the future. His films are some of the deepest I've ever seen. The questions of morality and what it makes to be human and... there pure honesty. I was struggling over that last word for a couple of minutes but that's the best way I can sum of his films. They had a honest quality to them which always connected with me a great deal. Real people in real situations struggling over real life matters even when placed in fantastical settings. Go out and explore Bergman today if you have never seen one of his movies especially if your in the U.K. The Seventh Seal is currently re-running in select cinema's at the moment... a great way to celebrate a great man.
