Iron Man 2 International Poster Limps In
Talk about over-zealous use of the old Photoshop! The floating heads look has rarely been done as badly, with no compositional cohesion (where the hell does the crowd disappear to?), meaning it just looks like a collection of individual images pasted together. Which it undoubtedly is. Even the first film's ensemble poster was better than this- thanks mostly to a better grasp of the fundaments of composition..
The tonal distinction at least held the images together. On the new poster, it looks as if the studio have decided that the best way to announce the new movie is to have every major character on it, in an attempt to get the positive candy store window effect. What results is vulgar and cheap looking, and a far throw from the individual character posters, of which the War Machine/Iron Man version really grabbed the fanboy in me and shook.
The tonal distinction in the Iron Man 2 poster is a completelydifferent problem- the image at the bottom of Whiplash is in itself a fantastically compelling image if you look at it alone and closely- that is minus the entirely superfluous explosion behind him. And therein lies the problem- there is way too much going on here, it's as if Michael Bay was in charge of the artwork, so familiar are the child-with-ADHD style decisions.
And wouldnt you know it, I think I found another poster made by the same hands- there is definitely the same amount of artistic ability on show...
So, what do you lot think?
