IRON MAN 2 trailer "completes me"

Matt gives his commentary on the Iron Man 2 trailer, the coolest thing we've seen in a while!

Jon Favreau knows how to cut a damn fine trailer. He's left it late in the day to show off Iron Man 2 but boy, was it worth the wait... SEE IT NOW IN QUICKTIME HD RIGHT HERE Stark's still the comic book supehero's comedian. Great scene to kick-off the trailer. Robert Downey Jr and Gwyneth Paltrow have the best chemistry between a male/female combo in any comic book movie I've ever seen."You Complete Me" brought a bigger smile to my face than anything I've seen in any trailer, (barring the opening of the Kick-Ass reel that played at Comic Con with John Williams' Superman score) that I've seen for any movie opening 2010. Iron Man shows that CGI superheroes can work, in the same way Spider-Man did. Do we think this is because masked, fully costumed hero characters work just fine in CGI but where you have to see the face of the hero composed by CGI, e.g. The Hulk, it just doesn't look right because CGI can't capture the right emotions? Citizen Kane like screen transitions in a trailer! Jesus, Jon... you have outdone yourself Sir. How cool is that, and how much weight does it bring to the trailer which actually feels like it has a narrative running and a little story of it's own being told. Really smart. I love Whiplash's villain's lair. The villain's hideout is a location comic book movies have decided not to show us any glimpses of in recent years. Although it's a common comic book theme to explore, I kind of love the idea of the Stark/Whiplash ying/yang that's happening. Whiplash, from the verbal (I like Rourke but his Russian accent ain't all that) and visual trailer evidence is basically the embodiment of what would have come from an eccentric and talented engineer, who had the kind of upbringing in Russia that Whiplash had. Is Tony Stark arrested in this movie? What for - something to do with his drinking problem, or something else? OUCH! Only shot of Sam Rockwell's character Justin Hammer, a multi-billionaire adversary of Stark, in the whole trailer. Though there are definite hints that Hammer and Rhodes (played by Don Cheadle this time round) have hatched a plan to make clones of Iron Man but somewhere along the lines the relationship breaks down, and Iron Man/Cheadle's War Machine end up in a fierce battle against the army of clones. I really hope Scarlett Johansson fits into this comic book universe because from a considered point of view, her character is likely to be setup for sequels and potential Avengers spin-offs. Interestingly, we don't hear her speak in this trailer, so we don't have any kind of early indication as to how she's nailed down that Russian accent. Ah, the Ying/Yang again. Whiplash has created his own energy heart. He really does look like he just walked off the set of MadMax. Not necessarily a bad thing of course, pretty cool actually. Holy crap, does that look like an awesome scene. The shots that must leave Terrence Howard weeping. I admit it, I geeked out here. Iron Man and War Machine side by side in battle against those Iron Man clones I spoke of earlier. Really cool looking sequence and when you think about it, an early glimpse into the kind of larger superhero battles we can expect to see once The Avengers gets under-way. PLEASE LET US KNOW WHAT YOU THOUGHT OF THIS EXCITING TRAILER Iron Man 2 opens May 7th but I wish I could see this next week over Sherlock Holmes. Damn. How can the Holmes movie ever live up to this Iron Man 2 trailer that plays before it?
