James Cameron goes crazy for FORBIDDEN PLANET!
Over the weekend it was confirmed that James Cameron has been sent the J. Michael Straczynski (CHANGELING, Babylon 5) script for the FORBIDDEN PLANET remake Joel Silver is producing at Warner Bros. and completely fell in love with what he saw and is now anxious to direct the story himself and even turn it into a franchise trilogy. There's even an outline of how the three movies would develop thanks to Latino Review. Those familiar with the original 1956 classic will note that the first movie would be a prequel (well I guess not really as this is a reboot but you get the idea)...

Movie One tells the story of the original ship that came to Altair 4. Movie Two tells the story of the search for the Krell by the captain of the Bellerophon and his crew...as Diana continues to grow into something profoundly other-wordly. The search takes them beyond the limits of known space into other dimensions, passing from what's known into what's not. Movie Three tells the story of the second ship to arrive at Altair 4 to investigate what happened to the Bellerophon. They discover Morbius and his "daughter," who is desperate to get off the planet and out into the rest of the universe, where her power would nearly be god-like...a fate we are spared when Morbius sacrifices his life to keep her there and eliminate the Krell homeworld once and for all.Though I have to say I remain skeptical as to whether Cameron would have the energy for such an epic sized production so soon after AVATAR has taken up three years of his life. The whole movie industry expected him to work on something smaller next but I guess if he has gone crazy drunken in love with the idea of remaking FORBIDDEN PLANET then who can stop him? Who would want to stop him? An epic sci-fi saga from Cameron that covers three movies based on the original film that influenced the STAR TREK canon? Lots of room for exploration I say. source - aicn
