James Cameron Promises Battle Angel Alita After Avatar 2 & 3
"It would have to be pried out of my cold, dead fingers".
"I see the good the 'Avatar' franchise can do in terms of keeping a world audience cognizant of our relationship with nature, but doing it in an entertainment context," he said. "Ultimately I think there's more good to be done there than with 'Battle Angel.' 'Battle Angel' is just a great, kick ass story."So Avatar 2 (and possibly 3 if rumours are to be true) get in the way again and with producer Jon Landau hinting that they might not even arrive until 2014 or 2015, the chances of seeing a Battle Angel Alita flick from Jimmy C seems a long way off. However he does still seem quite keen to get on to the project at some point.
"It would have to be pried out of my cold dead fingers," Cameron said. "But on the other hand, I don't want to take it to my grave either..."Well I don't know about you but I'd much prefer a Battle Angel Alita movie before I saw another Avatar movie but then I've been wanting to see James Cameron's spin on Alita since we first found out he had the rights to do it, which seems like ages ago now.

For those that don't know, Battle Angel Alita was created by Yukito Kishiro in 1990. It's set in the post-apocalyptic future and focuses on Alita, a cyborg who has lost all memories and is found in a garbage heap by a cybernetics doctor who rebuilds and takes care of her. She discovers that there is one thing she remembers, the legendary cyborg martial art Panzer Kunst, which leads to her becoming a Hunter Warrior (bounty hunter type deal). The story traces Alita's attempts to rediscover her past and the characters whose lives she impacts on her journey. James Cameron. Cybrog battle girl. Crazy amounts of super CGI tech at his disposal. Move aside Avatar sequels, I want James Cameron on this project please.
