Though Marvel have been unusually quiet on the future of the MCU in the universe-changing aftermath of Infinity War, one film they did confirm would be headlining Phase 4 of their plans is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. After a few months letting the Guardians enjoy their time in the limelight outside of their own franchise though, writer-director James Gunn has finally given fans an update on how the next solo movie is coming along.

Sharing a post on Twitter with the caption "Every bit of my heart", Gunn confirmed that a script for the third movie (officially confirmed to share the same "volume' moniker as its predecessor) is finally complete, revealing an image of the screenplay's title page. The post follows an interview with Collider given by studio head Kevin Feige, who laid out plans for the scant few post-Infinity War movies Marvel have officially announced:

James [Gunn] has delivered a draft and we begin official pre-production on that very, very soon. It’ll be shooting early next year. Captain Marvel finishes in about two weeks, Spider-Man starts in about two weeks, and then Guardians 3 will start early next year.”

Currently eyeing a 2020 release date, the third Guardians is the most far-off project Marvel have revealed so far, but it will be one of the first to usher in the new age of the MCU after Avengers 4 in 2019. Consequently, plot details will no doubt be kept under wraps until after that film hits theatres, but there's a good chance fans will be picking up with their favourite cosmic superhero team in a very different set of circumstances than they left them in at the end of Vol. 2.
