Given the immediate success of Halloween at the box office and with critics (somewhat unexpectedly), it was always likely that we'd end up with a slew of nostalgic slasher movies and old horror revivals being greenlit by studios eager to follow the same money. In the same way that It kicked off more interest in making Stephen King movies and TV shows, a strong showing by Michael Myers was always going to inspire more business.

So it shouldn't come as too much of a surprise that the conversation around the long-gestating Friday The 13th "rebirth" should have clicked back into gear this week.

According to Bloody Disgusting, LeBron James of all people is leading the charge on a new outing for Jason Vorhees with help from Roy Lee's Vertigo. Right now, it's very early days so there's no writer or director, but it's exciting to hear of another horror icon being revived, especially as James has already scored a fan-friendly win with his production company by securing the Space Jam sequel.

In the same way that the new Halloween consciously appealed to fans by bringing in John Carpenter and bringing back Jamie Lee Curtis, this new team should immediately recognise the need to pay their dues to the past, so don't be surprised if we hear of old familiar names being linked to roles.
