JJ not so keen on CLOVERFIELD sequel

Claims he wants to do "another idea" with the same writer and director of the monster hit.

Despite some apparently "superb" ideas from the original writer Drew Goddard and director Matt Reeves along with some inevitable heavy studio pressing - J.J. Abrams surprisingly doesn't seem so keen on making a follow-up to the surprise $169 million worldwide mega monster hit Cloverfield.

In fact, he's had his brain ticking over since the 5th highest grossing movie (and the only one made for under $30 million) opened in January on other ideas according to Sci-Fi Wire...
"We're talking about it," Abrams said of Cloverfield 2 during an interview at the Fox upfront presentation for advertisers in New York on May 15, where he was promoting his upcoming SF TV series Fringe. "But the truth is there's another idea that I'd rather do with the same people than do a sequel. It's a whole new thing."
Cloverfield was awesome and it ended up being so much more than just it's marketing gimmick. It was a GREAT monster movie, had some thrilling and terrifiying moments (loved the whole subway sequence) and some really fine performances from it's fresh faced leads. It's a movie I've seen three times now and I have little difficulty in enjoying any aspect of it. The film still feels as fresh and exciting as the first time I saw it. I would love to see a sequel and I'm pretty sure before long we will, even if it has to be after JJ's latest wacky idea. Hey you know, maybe he has an idea to reboot Star Trek and cast an aging Leonard Nimoy to travel back in time to the years of Kirk in Starfleet. Wait.... never mind. source - coming soon
