John Wick Sequel In The Works
Would be Keanu's first sequel since The Matrix trilogy.
Keanu Reeves is having yet another career renaissance and I can't say I'm unhappy about that. As well as proving his directing chops with Man of Tai Chi - really, it wasn't glittering, but it was much more than solid - he's also played well-received roles in Eli Roth's Knock Knock and the instant cult action movie, John Wick. Wick is just coming out on Blu-ray and DVD in the US, so directors Chad Stahelski and David Leitch are doing the interview rounds. The most popular little nugget to tumble from their lips so far landed in the lap of Movies.com, when Stahelski was asked about a sequel and he said, "Were in development right now." That's it, that simple. There's a John Wick 2 in the works. By the looks of Twitter and Facebook, this particular second coming has got all the buzz you'd associate with... well, you know. The other one. There aren't any plot details for the follow-up, but the guys say they're thinking them out carefully. For seasoned second unit and stunt masters like Stahelski and Leitch the action is easy, but providing a context for the action that enriches it, gives it a reason, and makes sure the audience is invested is tougher. But they're saying all the right things. They'll get the story right, keep the character likeable, and then root some new, bigger, better-than-ever action sequences in all of that. That's the kind of thinking that makes popcorn cinema taste so sweet. John Wick has yet to receive its UK release but the US Blu-ray and DVD are available now. I won't be waiting; I've already ordered my import copy.
