Jonah Hill is throwing The Kitchen Sink at it. Deadline reports that Hollywood's most in-demand comedy actor is to make his first foray into film directing when he will helm Oren Uziel's black-listed screenplay that follows the unlikely alliance between a high school-aged vampire, zombie and human as they try to save their town from invading aliens. The 'drama' (surely it's more comedy/horror?) script has been likened to the tone of The Breakfast Club and the Sony Pictures film is titled The Kitchen Sink, because that's exactly what Uziel throw at his screenplay. Every hot genre conceit he could think of into a melting pot, has stirred it around, and it's now Hill's task to serve it up in a way that doesn't come off as niche-pleasing desperate. Curious timing that 27 year old Hill sees now as the time to experiment with a career behind the camera. As we've said, there's few actors around who are enjoying more high-profile work than he and The Kitchen Sink isn't particularly a run-of-the-mill movie to direct as your first feature. However, he's worked very closely with Judd Apatow, Bennett Miller (on the upcoming Moneyball), David Gordon Green (The Sitter) and Greg Mottola (Superbad) over the years - so his mentors are an eclectic group of craftsman and genre helmers that will all have affected the way he will approach this. Hill is due to appear in 21 Jump Street for Sony soon but there's a chance this could be the project he makes straight after. Going to be interesting to see if he casts himself and also which of his friends (i.e. Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill, Jason Segel, etc) will end up appearing in this one.
