Joseph Kosinski to make ARCHANGELS, a Bourne-style sci-fi actioner

By Matt Holmes /

Tron was never part of my childhood, so I'm not really geeking out over the prospect of Tron Legacy this Christmas like many, however I will see it - purely on the basis of how awesome the early footage of Joseph Kosinski's direction looks. Kosinski is someone we have been tracking for some time, his memorable ads for Gears of War (remember 'Mad World') were spectacular, and it hasn't surprised us one bit he has become a much sought-after young director in town. Even if he hasn't actually finished a feature yet.

We've known for a while that Kosinski has been developing an intriguing remake of The Black Hole for Disney and an adaptation of his own graphic novel Oblivion at Radical Pictures, and now THR say Kosinski has become attached to another geek project.

The film is Archangels, based on an original pitch from newcomer Andrew Will that is described as a Bourne-style sci-fi actioner where an elite force team are tasked with taking down aliens who manage to pass through Earth's defense system. It's been produced by Tony and Ridley Scott at New Regency. Cool. We were spoilt last year with three intelligent sci-fi movies, one a big budget Hollywood blockbuster (Star Trek) and the others two smaller original pictures in Moon and District 9 but we desperately hope it wasn't an anomaly and instead the start of a new trend in science-fiction.
