You wanted it and well now you've got it. Kevin Smith has at last confirmed that he will take one final trip into his View Askew Universe to bring the story of his most popular characters to an end once and for all. That's right Clerks 3 has a fully finished screenplay. Smith broke the news to the world on his Facebook page and sounded extremely excited about the development:
IT IS ACCOMPLISHED. First draft of CLERKS III is 137 pages. Plays like the EMPIRE STRIKES BACK of what's now become the Clerks Trilogy. And I am SO in love with it.
When we last left the film's protagonists they had been working another dead end job as assistants in 'Mooby's' a local fast food emporium before jacking it all in and buying the store from the first movie which had caused them so much misery way back when. Exactly where the story will go from there has not been revealed but one thing's for certain this is the only franchise Smith has ever been consistently on form with and expectations are very high for a top rate threequel. Interspecies erotica however is not guaranteed. Smith's announcement was accompanied by a photograph in which the first movies clapper board was displayed alongside the new script confirming that Smith had indeed been a busy boy. News broke that Smith was considering a return to his most popular material at the start of this year but he was quick to dismiss any talk of a movie instead saying he would prefer to make the continuing adventures of his Clerks as either a series of comics or an ongoing internet series. Whether that was the original plan or just a bluff is unknown but for now at least it's on the cards to hit cinema's sometime in the not too distant future. No word yet on whether the film's original cast will return but at this point in their careers I think it's a safe bet that they will. Is Clerks 3 one Clerks too many?
