Kim Basinger on board THE BURNING PLAIN
She is playing the mother to Charlize Theron in Guillermo Arriaga's debut film.
Amores Perros, 21 Grams, Babel and The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada then you should sit up and take notice. Arriaga is to make his directorial debut with The Burning Plain which we already know will star Charlize Theron in the lead role and will unsuprisingly for Arriaga, have two interconnecting storylines. Variety say Kim Bassinger will also appear in the film. She will play Theron's mother Gina. The two storylines are both focused on Theron's character, one where she is a child and one where she is older and tries to find common ground with her parents after her troubled past. I'm guessing Basinger will be in both narratives. The film begins shooting in early November in New Mexico. I loved what Arriaga did with his scripts for both Amores Perros and 21 Grams but I felt the inter-changing narratives became a gimmick in Babel and it had no place in that film. The whole story this time sounds like it thrives on the inter-cutting story so I guess we will see if it works this time.
