The 50th anniversary of Star Trek in 2016 would be reason enough for a movie tribute to Mr. Spock, but the recent passing of Leonard Nimoy has only added poignancy and purpose to such a film. And when the filmmaker behind such a tribute is none other than Nimoy's son, Adam, the emotional impacted will no doubt be ratcheted up even higher. Nimoy Jr. spoke to Variety about his plans for the documentary For the Love of Spock, which will co-produced by Paramount-based 455 films. "This will be a tribute to my dad and Spock, he said, "We have plenty to work from because my dad loved telling stories and he was very fond of the role. It's lucky that so much material already exists, and I can't wait to see it. We don't know, just yet, what format the film is going to take, but using Leonard Nimoy's own anecdotes and accounts in the material is a promising approach. Mr. Spock is one of the most interesting TV characters we've ever seen, and I hope the film does his subtleties justice. We'll find out next year, in time for the Trek anniversary, when we should also get a look at Justin Lin's new instalment in the main Trek series. What a bittersweet time to be a fan.
