Hollywood News has gotten word that Matthew McConaughey's new thriller The Lincoln Lawyer that opens in the U.K. and U.S. tomorrow is getting it's admission price slashed Stateside to $6 through Groupon in an attempt to stimulate Box Office revenue. It's a move that record labels do regularly to hit number 1 in the charts but reducing ticket prices out of the gate is unprecedented from a major film studio. And not one you would make if you were confident about your film performing. The full statement from Lionsgate reads:
We are always looking for ways to reach our consumers with targeted, cost-effective and innovative campaigns. Groupon is one of the most dynamic young companies in the world today, and their emergence as a digital commerce pioneer made them the perfect online partner for Lionsgate and THE LINCOLN LAWYER. We believe this agreement is the shape of things to come as Hollywood studios discover a natural alliance with smart, entrepreneurial digital partners in bringing our content to consumers with cutting edgepromotional campaigns that harness the unprecedented reach of the online world. Were delighted that our LINCOLN LAWYER partner, Tom Rosenberg at Lakeshore, shared our vision in helping us create this historic first.
It must be noted that this is only for the US and the ridiculously high UK ticket prices are not affected. Our review of The Lincoln Lawyer will be online tomorrow.
