Luke Evans Exits The Crow Remake

The hunt for a new lead begins.

Luke Evans became attached to star in The Crow shortly after it was revealed that F. Javier Gutiérrez would be directing a reboot. However, with the filmmaker committing to a new take on The Ring horror franchise, the movie has been in limbo, with little known director Corin Hardy later being chosen by the studio to take over directing duties. Talking to HitFix over the weekend, Evans was quoted as saying, "Right now I€™m not sure where it is, I don€™t know what€™s happening with it. I think it€™s a question probably to ask Relativity€they€™re the ones who are really holding the strings to this story and this character. But yeah, I don€™t think it€™s gonna be something I€™m gonna be doing for a while. I€™ve got about four or five different projects which I€™m lining up for this year, which will take up the majority of my 12 months. So not in the near future, unfortunately." One of the things which seemed to really concern the The Hobbit star was the fact that a new director also means a new take on the story, as Gutiérrez was apparently aiming to be "as honourable to the book and loyal to the book as possible." Hearing comments like these from an actor is never good, and it was only a few short hours later that The Wrap would confirm that Evans is no longer attached to star in the project, and that Relativity are already looking for a new leading man. Thor star Tom Hiddleston was apparently very keen on starring as The Crow at one point, even donning the make-up during his audition. However, he chose to pass on the role, so whether or not he could be tempted back remains to be seen! Either way, fans are sceptical about the reboot, and these issues aren't doing the movie any favours...
