NOTE: I wrote this article before the crazy, insane rumor of Man of Steel 2 "maybe but not really going to happen in 2014" was reported. During the pre-release hype for Man of Steel, it seemed as if you could never read an article about the Superman reboot that didn't mention Justice League, World's Finest, or the phrase "DC Cinematic Universe" as it was largely assumed that this film would be the launching point for a new era of DC films. Several pundits believe that a shared film universe is happening, despite Warner Bros. never confirming or denying any of the countless rumors that were reported in the months before Man of Steel. Overcoming a lukewarm critical reaction, Man of Steel has played well for audiences, raking in an estimated $111 million (that total will grow to $125 million when the special Thursday night screenings are taken into account). Well on its way to becoming the most financially successful Superman film ever, it's a guarantee that there will be a sequel. While WB has not officially green lit it just yet, I would expect in the next week or so, they'll announce their plan. Since the public has positively responded to this interpretation of the character (the "A-" CinemaScore will cancel out the 56% Rotten Tomatoes rating), the rumors on what the studio does next will be in full force once again. Do they move forward on a solo Superman sequel? Maybe Superman teams up with a new Batman? Or does WB roll the dice, put all their chips on the table, and make Justice League right away? I've made my thoughts on the proposed DC crossover known to readers of this site before. Regardless of what WB decides to do, I think producing a Man of Steel sequel is the smartest choice. Here are five reasons why. Click "Next" to begin...
