Marvel's The Avengers co-stars Mark Ruffalo (Hulk) and Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow) are to re-team together for Can a Song Save Your Life?, a music heavy 'feel good romance' that is written and to be directed by John Carney, the Irish born filmmaker who unleashed the tearjerker phenomenon Once five years ago. Filming on the $10 million movie will kick-off in June. Exclusive Media are producing and will finance the film with Judd Apatow (Bridesmaids, Knocked Up) on board to help Executive Produce. Depending on how much involvement Apatow really has in the picture could dictate whether his usual stable of actors will land supporting roles. The film was officially announced by Exclusive Media today and they released the following synopsis; "Seduced by dreams of making it in the big city, Gretta (Johansson) and her long-time boyfriend move to New York to pursue their passion for music. Shes heartbroken when he dumps her for the fame and fortune of a big solo contract, leaving Gretta all on her own. Her world takes a turn for the better when a down-on-his-luck record producer (Ruffalo) stumbles upon her singing in a local bar and is immediately captivated by her raw talent and inspiring authenticity - they may be each others last chance to turn their lives around. Somewhere between friendship and their love of music, the two strangers strike a chord that captures the hearts of everyone around them, proving that every great story has its own soundtrack." The project was brewing last summer when casting for the male lead came down to Jim Carrey and Mark Ruffalo, both who were percolating in producer Anthony Bergman's mind as he produced both actors in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. In the end Ruffalo got the gig. Johansson's casting will give her the rare on screen chance to show-off her vocal talent. She already has two albums to her name, the 2008 released Anywhere I Lay My Head and the Pete Yorn collaborated Break Up. She has contributed to a couple of soundtracks to her movies but rarely actually in her films have we heard her sing.
