Masked Zemo Revealed In Captain America Civil War Concept Art
He could have looked a lot more traditional...
If you didn't like what Captain America: Civil War did to villain Zemo, then, unfortunately you're all sorts of wrong. He wasn't disappointing, he wasn't another blah Marvel villain and he wasn't an insult to the original character: he was a nuanced, narratively strong human character with a personal agenda. He brought balance to the spectacle as well as mirroring Tony Stark's own personal tragedy, and the decision to adapt him that way was inspired.
But now some concept art has hit the net that shows Zemo in more traditional garb from the comics, wearing a version of his iconic purple mask and looking a lot more like a terrorist leader. Perhaps this was intended to be his look during the flashback when it is revealed he was Sokovian Special Forces (why couldn't they have made the purple ski-mask an Easter Egg?)
It's a good looking design, and hopefully the fact that Zemo remains alive could suggest that we'll see him again. The best we can hope for is a General Ross led hit squad (basically, the Thunderbolts) who use Zemo's particular set of skills and anti-Avengers motivation to good use to find the underground heroes. If that's the case, having in more tactical gear like this (albeit with a silly purple mask to make him stand out a mile) would be a nice choice.
