Matthew Vaughn "desperate to get his hands" on SPIDER-MAN reboot

The always reliable Drew McWeeny was a guest speaker for The Loop segment of "Attack of the Show" yesterday and revealed that he had a brief telephone conversation with Matthew Vaughn, who Drew claims is "desperate to get his hands on Spider-Man" in what I guess could be seen as a come-and-get-me plea to Sony, via a third party. You can hear the conversation turn to potential directors at the 4.08 mark, but the whole thing is a pretty damn good listen if you wanna hear some intelligent thoughts on what is a defining moment in the history of comic book franchises on film.

Video Games - E3 2010 - The Loop After Marvel rejected Matthew Vaughn's pitch for Thor- and the continuing problems that surround the Superman franchise at Warner Bros. which blocked Vaughn and Mark Millar's pitch for an epic reboot of the Man of Steel, - I'm not at all surprised to hear of this development. Vaughn's a huge comic book nerd and he has made it fairly obvious that he desires a big superhero property to satisfy his fandom, coming close infamously with X-Men 3: The Last Stand until family issues got in the way and he had to pull out, and truly the X-Men franchise has never recovered. Eventually his journey led him to adapting Mark Millar's Kick-Ass, a kind of modern day take on an ordinary teenage kid who decides put on a costume to fit crime and injustice. It's Spider-Man for the 21st century - and when no studio in town would let him play ball - he self-financed the picture with his friends and those who believed in him and all the signs point to the beginnings of a successful franchise. They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and I gotta say - Sony would be very wise indeed in giving Vaughn a call and hearing his pitch.
