Max Landis Leaves Chronicle 2

By Alejandro Montanaro /

Chronicle was one of the biggest surprises and arguably one of the best movies of the last year. It had a cool story, great characters, and one of the best fight scenes in recent years. When it was announced that Fox wanted to make a sequel with the writer of the original movie Max Landis writing the script I was thrilled. But then things started to look bad when rumors started to spread about Fox having problems with his script. After a very promising interview in which he mentioned that they liked the script but wanted to find a good way to please everybody, we all thought things would change for the better. But now we've found out via twitter that Max Landis not only has left the project for good due to differences with the studios, but that he actually left the project months ago.

I've been off Chronicle 2 for months now. Fox had a different direction they wanted to take the series, Josh was never attached. [...] So yeah it's sad that as of right now I'm not involved in the sequel, and don't know what it's about even, but ultimately I can't complain. Chronicle 2 is still probably happening, just not with my involvement as of now. It's a bummer, but there are no real hard feelings. They hired new writers on it. I'm sure they'll announce soon. Just hope this answers the questions I've been getting everyday.
I'm at a complete loss for words right now. I was excited and curious about what direction this movie was going to take and what sort of things we would see in the sequel. Now all my dreams are destroyed, I'm sure that even if the film is good it won't be Landis' original vision of what Chronicle 2 was supposed to be. At least I hope they don't change much of the story. How do you feel about this sad news? Could Chronicle 2 work without Landis?
