MCU: 10 Most Underrated Performances

Karen Gillen's Nebula deserves more respect.

The Marvel Cinematic universe has been revered for its epic action sequences, snappy dialogue, and the way each entry seamlessly interconnection with one another.

Of course, the most important element of the MCU has to be the characters, or more specifically, the performers. With dozens of wisecracking Avengers, a myriad of iconic villains, and hundreds of supporting characters, the franchise isn't going to run out great performances any time soon.

Even though we all have our favourites, the same names keep getting brought up. When discussing the best actors in the franchise, Robert Downey Jr, Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, and Josh Brolin are always mentioned. This is a shame since there are a few terrific actors in the MCU who don't get enough credit.

There are all sorts of reasons why this can happen. Maybe the character he or she portrayed only appeared in one film. Maybe they were in one of the earlier films, which has been overshadowed by the more recent entries.

Maybe we don't remember certain heroes or villains because the actor who played the role acted like a human being rather than... y'know... a comic book character. Whatever the reason, these actors deserve respect for these powerful but unappreciated performances.

10. Andy Serkis - Ulysses Klaue

No matter how much you love Marvel, you have to admit that early villains like Malekith, Red Skull, and Ronan were pretty weak. Taking this criticism to heart, Marvel Studios CEO, Kevin Feige, took special effort to make the MCU's rogue gallery more complex. With three-dimensional supervillains like Loki, Killmonger, and Thanos receiving universal praise, this looked like the right decision.

But every once in a while, it's fun to have a cackling, moustache-twirling baddie like Ulysses Klaue, played by Andy Serkis. Even though his partner-in-crime, Killmonger, is a sympathetic villain, Klaue is anything but. This South African smuggler is a cold-blooded psychopath who will do anything and kill anybody for money.

As the mo-cap master proved with Gollum, nobody throws themselves into a role the way Serkis does. Every moment he's on-screen, the acclaimed actor and director chews every piece of scenery until there's nothing left. Despite the fact his performance is over-the-top, it works as a perfect counter-balance to Michael B. Jordan's subdued performance as Killmonger.

Because the character served his purpose in Black Panther, it made sense to have Klaue killed off. Nevertheless, it was a shame to watch him die since Serkis was endlessly entertaining in the role.
