When Frank Grillo's Brock Rumlow reappeared in Avengers: Endgame for a brilliant subversion of Captain America: The Winter Soldier's elevator scene, you could have been forgiven for thinking that was the last we'd ever see of the character. Even Grillo seemed to think he had no future in the MCU - at least, his behaviour in openly spoiling his cameo (and also that of Tilda Swinton) in interviews in the run up to Endgame's release seemed to suggest so.

And yet, here we are, looking down both barrels of the news that Grillo actually has a whole loads of movies still on his MCU contract that he could have to make.

Speaking to ComicBook.com, Grillo was asked about his MCU future and revealed Marvel's hold over him:

"You know what? I got five more movies that I'm obligated to do for Marvel if they ever call me. So who knows, man? Maybe I'll be Captain America after Mackie. I'll be a middle-aged Captain America. A middle-aged, Italian, Captain America. Think about that."

He's clearly not going to be that, but if we're looking at a future where the multiverse genuinely is open - because it has to be thanks to Endgame, no matter what happened in Spider-Man: Far From Home then we could perhaps be looking at alternate universes where he remains alive. And maybe in one of them he IS an elseworlds-style Captain America?

Stranger, Professor Hulk-shaped things have happened.

The reality is probably that we won't see Rumlow or Crossbones again, no matter how great the character was and how underused he ended up being. He's just too dead.
