Opening a week after Star Wars: The Force Awakens pretty much guarantees that Mission: Impossible 5 will fail to hit the #1 spot at the box office. Sensibly, Paramount Pictures have now moved the movie five months way from it! Don't panic though as we won't be waiting until 2016 to see Tom Cruise return as Ethan Hunt! Mission: Impossible 5's new release date is July 31st, this year. This means it will open opposite Southpaw (starring Jake Gyllenhaal), the Point Break remake, and Tarsem Singh€™s science fiction thriller Selfless starring Ryan Reynolds. It's also sandwiched right between Ant-Man and Fantastic Four, so the busy July will be very interesting to see play out at the box office. Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol earned just under $700 million when it opened in 2011. Directed by Christopher McQuarrie (Jack Reacher), Mission: Impossible 5 also stars Jeremy Renner, Alec Baldwin, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Simon McBurney, and Rebecca Ferguson. It was written by Will Staples and Drew Pearce.
