M.NIGHT guarantee's one film per year
This is a little sad, because I think if this story was the other way around it might have actually been something to get excited about. Variety report that M.Night Shyamalan has struck a deal with Media Rights Capital to form Night Chronicles, a new financing/production outlet which will release a Shyamalan film once a year, for the next three years. Shyamalan will produce and come up with the basic idea, but for the first time in his career he won't direct them. Instead he will be handpicking a writer and director to bring his stories to life. That's the sad bit I was talking about, because if you ask me he is five times the director than he is the guy for coming up with original and interesting plots.

"Filmmakers have always been my inspiration," Shyamalan said in a statement. "Working with the next wave of innovative filmmakers will teach me many things that I can bring to my own writing/directing and give my stories the opportunity to be brought to the screen in a stunning way."Shyamalan has of course, not given up directing. His next project will be The Last Airbender, an adaptation of Nickelodeon's Avatar series which Paramount wishes to bow on July 2nd 2010. That movie will mark his first adaptation of someone elses' characters, though he of course is still writing the script. Which after The Village, Lady in the Water and The Happening, is bad news indeed.
