The outstanding Irish indie film KISSES about to runaways on the streets of Dublin is coming out in the UK, so we caught up with director Lance Daly to find out what he'd want to watch on our lonely desert island cinema... OWF: So, Lance, we've marooned you on our desert island: what 5 films would you take with you and why? LD: Well, they'd have to be films you can watch over and over again wouldn't they? OWF: Yeah, you're going to be stuck for a while! LD: I'd have to pick a really long one anyway, that'd be ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST. It manages to be brilliant right through that long duration, and it's always so affecting at the end. And then RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK... maybe! OWF: Is that to inject some fun into your stay on the island? LD: It'd actually be for the romance, believe it or not! It'd be for the Daaa-daa-da-da-da-da-da! You know? The love theme and stuff, there's something about that which really makes sense to me. So I'd take RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK and then something by... I'm tempted to say a Fellini picture but I might get sick of it, so I might take THE BICYCLE THIEVES because I'd want to take things that weren't funny, because you wouldn't laugh out loud on your own, I'd take things that're emotionally affecting so I could try and remember that I'm alive! And what's the biggest box set of all time? I'd try and make a raft out of it. The LAUREL AND HARDY box set or something. OWF: Great answer! That has to be the most imaginative answer I've had! I'm not sure how successful you'd be but it's a good idea. LD: Well that's the pragmatic director for you! OK, so one more. I'd have to think of one with a beautiful young lady in it just to keep me sane. I love Faye Dunaway in THREE DAYS OF THE CONDOR so it'd be that, although I could say any 70s film with Faye Dunaway in it. OWF: We've got so many potential lists here: best female leads, biggest box-sets, we could talk all day! LD: I know, I love lists! OWF: But sadly we have to send you to the island now. Thanks for talking to us! LD: Thanks a lot!
