Narc director Joe Carnahan has revealed he is to direct an adaptation of James Ellroy's crime novel White Jazz. The book is the sequel to L.A. Confidential which of course was adapted into a very succesful 1997 movie starring Kevin Spacey, Russell Crowe and Guy Pearce. White Jazz follows 42 year old Lt. Dave Klein in a story of corruption and murder showcasing the dark side of the L.A.P.D. in a similar vein to L.A. Confidential. Carnahan spoke to CHUD about the project.... My brother and I wrote the adaptation.... Its, to me, what that book always was the point of departure from the Eisenhower 50s to the psychedelic freakshow, Manson 60s. Its a total combination of the two with a heavy, heavy voice-over narration, this kind of classic noir". He went on to say that he has someone already cast for the film that will "blow us away" but he can't mention any names yet. We may have to wait a while until we see the movie though, Carnahan is mulling over whether to shoot this movie or a remake of Bunny Lake is Missing next. If the film turns out to be half the movie L.A. Confidential was then it will be worth seeing. It's a shame I missed out on seeing The Black Dahlia as that was another novel written by but these days it won't be too long for it to come round on DVD. source - chud
