National Lampoon: Spider-Man? Vacation Writers Tackle Marvel's Reboot

Expect the new Spidey to be VERY funny.

Billy Elliot (stage variety) as Spider-Man? A guy behind the camera who nobody's ever heard of? The Spider-Man reboot sure isn't being shy in taking chances to ensure this version of the web-slinger is the best it can be. After that exciting casting announcement last month, it's been revealed who's going to be putting words in Tom Holland's mouth; Deadline are reporting that John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein are set to write Spidey's entry into the MCU. The pair were linked to the film in a directorial capacity (before Jon Watts secured the gig), so it's clear Sony/Marvel want these guys involved in some form. This is pretty good news for those looking forward to this summer's Vacation - the National Lampoon "sequel", which is Daley and Goldstein's directorial debut, could feasibly go either way, but for the high profile movie to secure their talents implies they've produced something pretty impressive. They also wrote Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2 (and both Horrible Bosses, but let's try and forget those), which means the Lord and Miller school of though is slowly taking over Hollywood; the other comedy pair, who directed the first Meatballs and worked with Daley and Goldstein on the sequel's story, are now attached to the Han Solo Anthology film. As for Spider-Man, this pretty much goes in line with everything we've heard so far; after a previous reboot that felt rather self-serious, the new version is going to go straight to the character's quipping roots. Well, this is a Marvel movie after all. Tom Holland's Spider-Man will make his debut in Captain America: Civil War on 6th May, 2016 and get his first standalone movie on 28th July, 2017.
