New Ant-Man TV Spot FINALLY Gets The Film's Tone Right

There's no reason to be scared.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5SapKyleSDw Throughout its marketing, it hasn't been quite clear what tone Ant-Man's been going for. You'd expect it to be a pretty lighthearted affair - Edgar Wright was originally set to direct and his replacement, Peyton Reed, is best experienced in comedy fare, while casting Paul Rudd as the lead is a pretty clear indicator of jokes to come. But the trailers haven't followed suit - a hilarious Thomas the Tank Engine cameo and self-aware jabs at the silliness of the concept has been juxtaposed with the usual high-stakes Marvel epic-ness and a po-faced sense of seriousness to the story. Thankfully, this latest, extended TV spot sets the record straight. Scored to Suuns' 2020, the tease feels like a much more confident show of what to expect come July - it's got the usual Marvel story and action, but everything else looks to be a lot more comedic, even by quip-heavy Marvel's standards. On top of that, it also features the first proper appearance of Michael Peña's Luis, who looks to be a criminal acquaintance of Rudd's Scott Lang. Ant-Man is out on July 17th.
