While the big green guy now has a successful US movie series of his own, thanks to Gareth Edwards' surprisingly prosperous reboot, Japan's Toho are far from done with Godzilla back home. Today they announced the two directors of his upcoming 2016 picture, and they seem to be tailor-made for the project. Credited as 'chief director' will be Neon Genesis Evangelion's Hideaki Anno, and his 'co-director' and 'special effects director' will be Attack on Titan's Shinji Higuchi. These guys previously collaborated on the live-action, Ghibli backed short God Monster Appears in Tokyo, which you can see in the player below. In retrospect, it feels like something of a test film, or proof of ability reel. https://vimeo.com/64987176 There were sparse details about the upcoming Godzilla revealed, though Toho did make room for a piece of one-upmanship. This will be, the studio have said, the biggest version of Godzilla to be realised to date. That had been Gareth Edwards' version. I think we're on for a bit of 'size matters' Godzilla Wars, back and forth over the Pacific Ocean for the next few year. Why can't we all just get along?
