New Jurassic World Trailer

Are SFX and dinos are enough to sell the film? Probably.

I don't know about this at all. It looks nice, and expensive, and some of the dinosaurs are wonderful special effects trickery; I love Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard and am always glad to see them on the big screen; and I've had a weakness for Theme Park Gone Bad stories since my childhood in the 70s. But there's just nothing here that really captures my imagination. What's it about? What are the themes? Michael Crichton might have been an anti-science luddite but at least he engaged with ideas below the surface all the time. I'm not saying this film won't be super smart and engaging, just that the trailer isn't conveying any of this. Maybe Universal think the SFX and dinos are enough to sell the film.A raptor pack might seem a little silly, or it might be easy to justify with research and behavioural psychology, that's not the point. The point is... so what if there's a raptor pack here? Where are they going with this? Is it just a novelty? I really liked Colin Trevorrow's Safety Not Guaranteed so I'm hopeful that this is all just marketing gone wrong. Jurassic World opens in the US and UK on June 11th.
