Nolan going Interstellar for Steven Spielberg

By Matt Holmes /

Jonah Nolan has been hired to write Interstellar, a space adventure that revolves around explorers who travel through a worm hole into another dimension. Steven Spielberg is currently attached to direct. The idea came about when Spielberg attended a scientific workshop, where a theory from physicist Kip S. Thorne who stated that wormholes do indeed exist and could indeed be used for time travel. This revelation fascinated the director. Nolan, who is of course the brother of director Christopher Nolan, wrote the scripts for The Prestige and The Dark Knight and was also the guy responsible for the original short story for Memento which his brother adapted into a kick ass film. So, I guess Spielberg hasn't completely lost his sense of wonder and imagination. Hopefully he won't treat this film with as much pessimism as he did with War of the Worlds (which I thought was a good movie by the way) and instead gives us a film that justifies it's fascinating subject matter. We won't see this for a while though. Indy Jones IV and Abraham Lincolon biopic will come before this, tentatively scheduled for 2009. source - coming soon, variety
