Piven Brings The Goods

By Will Reynolds /

Jeremy Piven has spent practically his entire career as a supporting player. Now, at the ripe old age of 42, Piven is finally a leading man. Will Ferrell and Adam McKay's Gary Sanchez Productions have set up The Goods: The Don Ready Story at Paramount Vantage with Neal Brennan set to direct. The script comes from relative newcomers Rick Stempson and Andy Stock.

The Goods sets Piven up as "a used-car liquidator hired to save a struggling dealership during a Fourth of July weekend sale."

Piven, Ferrell and McKay are of course all known quantities, but the real surprise could come from director Neal Brennan. Brennan was Dave Chappelle's partner for many years and co-creator of Chappelle's Show. Of course the show went south when its star bailed, but for my money it was the funniest thing on American TV during it's short two season run. It'll be fun to see how Brennan and Piven, two guys who've probably done their best work on TV, make the transition to the big screen. source - the hollywood reporter
