As always it's tremendous fun to speculate on what these films may hold for audiences, picking apart all the trailer shots, every single rumour, and subreddits worth of fan theories to try and figure out what might actually happen.

More than anything, we all want to know how a movie will end, both in terms of the fates of the central characters and how it leaves things for a potential sequel.

And so, by scouring fan theories, poring over trailers, and including a little of our own intuition, here are some predictions for 10 of the biggest movies due for release over the next 12 months.

From a certain iconic character who might finally bite the dust in a hit horror franchise to a cinematic universe that may get the "soft reboot" treatment, along with everything else in-between, here are some speculative, somewhat educated guesses for how these 10 hugely hyped films will wrap things up...

10. Dewey Dies (And Gale Avenges Him) - Scream

Perhaps the most quietly unique thing about the Scream franchise is that, after four movies, the three main characters - Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell), Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox), and Dewey Riley (David Arquette) - are all still alive and part of the cast.

The trio are back for the upcoming fifth film, and the boldest statement of intent it could possibly make would be to finally kill off one of the Big Three in its third act.

Sadly the most strikingly obvious candidate is Dewey - the fan favourite comic relief character whose demise would strike a massive emotional chord with audiences.

Given that Dewey was originally supposed to die in the first film and his many near-death encounters in the sequels have become an in-joke, having him finally succumb to Ghostface's blade would make for a hugely shocking climax.

With the movie's trailer featuring a dramatic slow-motion shot of Gale screaming outside of a hospital, we're going to bet that Dewey is killed late in the day.

It'll then be Gale who gets cathartic revenge by putting the killer down, whoever they are, in the final standoff.
