Ranking June 2016's Movies - From Worst To Best

Pixar rules the roost.

June typically sees Hollywood's blockbuster factory working at its highest capacity, and yet this year it resulted in a surprisingly low number of undeniable duds.

Sure, there were disappointments all the same, but nothing as critically-reviled as a Transformers movie, for instance. Instead, several potentially-awful films proved pleasantly surprising, while the likes of Pixar and James Wan delivered as just about everyone expected.

That's not even mentioning the litany of indie flicks that came out of nowhere and pretty much stole the month away from most of the big-hitters, proving that June truly had something for everyone at the cinema.

July won't be much calmer, though, serving up the likes of The BFG, The Legend of Tarzan, The Purge: Election Year, The Secret Life of Pets, Ghostbusters, Ice Age: Collision Course, Star Trek Beyond and Jason Bourne among others.

Here are June 2016's movies ranked from worst to best...

19. Warcraft

RottenTomatoes Score: 30% (4.2/10 average score)

Box Office: Though Warcraft massively under-performed in the U.S., its success in China in particular (where it's made almost half its entire gross) has allowed it to become the first video game movie to gross more than $400 million worldwide. While perhaps not the billion-dollar hit Universal were hoping for given the $160 million budget, it's enough to earn a sequel all the same.

Verdict: Though the Orcs are visually stunning and the action fitfully entertaining, Duncan Jones' third movie is a surprising bore on the whole, weighed down by overt exposition, terrible CGI compositing for the human characters, naff cinematography and far too much downtime between action sequences.

This is easily one of the year's biggest disappointments so far, and hopefully all involved will learn a few lessons for the sequel.
