Ranking May 2018's Movies From Worst To Best

After April kicked summer blockbuster season off in earnest with the release of Avengers: Infinity War, May saw movie studios gingerly unleashing their latest projects in the hope that Thanos wouldn't snap their box office prospects into oblivion.
Indeed, the two biggest releases this past month were a superhero sequel and a Star Wars spin-off, while the rest of the slate was bulked out by star vehicle rom-coms, animation of wildly varying quality and, yes, a bunch of unapologetic schlock that was being dispassionately dumped for a quick buck.
If you wanted to find quality entertainment outside the tentpole realm, Netflix at least turned in two rock solid genre films, a certain dramatic auteur made a return to solid form, and the art-house arena served up its typical buffet of diverse content.
As for what June has in store? Buckle up for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Ocean's 8, festival horror hit Hereditary, Sicario 2: Day of the Soldado and Tag among many more...
19. Show Dogs

Box Office: Made for a mere $5.5 million, the talking dog "comedy" had zero chance of box office failure, and has almost tripled its budget worldwide. However, it performed below expectations, likely due in part to the controversy surrounding a questionable scene said to normalise child grooming.
Verdict: A painful exericse in torture for anyone over the age of five, Show Dogs is lowest common denominator entertainment at its most lazy and cynical. Whatever Will Arnett was paid for this, it probably wasn't enough for how much of his dignity he sacrificed.
Oddly vulgar for a film aimed at children, virtually laughless and touting some of the worst CGI you'll ever see in a theatrical release, this is a flaming garbage pile.
