Reboot inevitable for ALIEN and PREADTOR franchises?

After a critical disaster, a financial disappointment and a deflated series that can now only attract rookie directors, where does both the ALIEN and PREDATOR franchise go from here?

Of course team-up movies are nothing new and have existed for several decades, the aftermath of which have either seen the characters take on different foes (as in the case of KING KONG vs. GODZILLA, as both would move onto other targets in later movies) or the battle between the two juggernauts FREDDY vs. JASON, citing the reboot button to be firmly pressed on those characters. A FRIDAY THE 13th restart will be in theatres by February of next year and it won't be too much longer after that when Freddy makes his return. ALIEN and PREDATOR have fought each other twice now and the figures for the latest movie have shown the series is showing sure signs of fatigue...
ALIENS (1986) - $85.1 million (opened at $10 million) ALIEN VS. PREDATOR (2004) - $80 million (opened at $38.2 million) ALIEN (1979) - $78.9 million (opened at $3.5 million) PREDATOR (1987) - $59.7 million (opened at $12 million) ALIEN 3 (1992) - $55.4 million (opened at $19.4 million) ALIEN RESURRECTION (1997) - $47.9 million (opened at $16.4 million) PREDATOR 2 (1990) - $30.6 million (opened at $8.7 million) ALIEN VS. PREDATOR: REQUIEM (2007) - $26.8 million (opened at $10 million)
The way the latest movie is headed, it should wind up being the least successful movie in the history of the ALIEN franchise and combining both franchise together, it should only fall behind PREDATOR 2 with audience popularity. The box office disappointment of ALIEN RESURRECTION a decade ago is what killed the single ALIEN franchise and the curiosity factor three years ago of seeing the two horror icons fighting together on the big screen grossed a hell of a lot of money but as always with this venture, it didn't obtain the respect or longevity of the fans. That film sucked, the novelty factor quickly wore off and a brief resurgence on Christmas day for the latest ALIEN VS. PREDATOR: REQUIEM was quickly soured once again by awful word of mouth. Both franchises are to inevitably end up in the remake/reboot stage. It's the only thing left for them now. And this cycle will start all over again. Question is, what would you prefer... a continuation of ALIEN vs. PREDATOR battles, brand new restarts to both franchises or for them to be left alone altogether? The Brothers Strause (the directors behind the latest movie) have spoke about setting the next team-up movie being set in Space (well, duh!) but after the box office flop, there is no guarantee they will be given the reigns once again.
