In the since-deleted tweet, Noah Outlaw (a known reliable source for Star Wars information and rumours) acknowledged the ongoing rumours suggesting the Iron Man actor could be playing Star Wars Rebels villain Admiral Thrawn in an upcoming live-action project, stating that "(Robert Downey Jr.) is not Thrawn. Now, I will say...(Lucasfilm) has talked to (Downey) about being in a future Star Wars project."

Ever since Ahsoka Tano referenced Thrawn in the latest season of The Mandalorian, fans have been theorising who could/should play the character voiced by Lars Mikkelsen on the animated show. It now appears that Downey Jr.'s name can be crossed off that list of potential Thrawns...for now. But it's interesting to note that it appears Lucasfilm are still interested in bringing the iconic actor into the world of Jedi, bounty hunters and adorable little green aliens in some capacity.

Could we see Downey pop up as another character in old pal Jon Favreau's The Mandalorian series at some point? Or will the biggest MCU star to date take up a role in Taika Waititi or Patty Jenkins' upcoming feature films?

As of this moment, Downey Jr.'s Star Wars fate is still somewhat unclear, but if this tweet is to be believed, the two parties have at least opened up communications regarding a potential introduction into the galaxy far, far away...
