Robin Hood Review: 2 Ups & 7 Downs
One of 2018's most epic trainwrecks.
Though you'd be forgiven for not noticing, the latest attempt to build a cinematic empire out of Robin Hood is in cinemas now, as the new Taron Egerton-starring film arrives with...pretty much no hype or expectations at all.
Early reviews have torn the film apart, while current box office tracking points to a colossal $100 million flop for Lionsgate.
It's rather reminiscent of last year's King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, though Guy Ritchie's film at least had some sense of gritty inventiveness behind it, whereas this dreadfully cynical effort is an almost total creative flatline.
It goes without saying that this is easily the worst of the major Hollywood live-action Robin Hood films to date, with even Ridley Scott's underwhelming 2010 effort proving a far more competent and engaging sit than this basement-level slop.
To the surprise of precious few, Robin Hood sucks, and it's enough of a catastrophe that it's sure to end up on countless "worst of 2018" lists in a few short weeks. Keep your eyes peeled for that...
