Roger Ebert reviews WATCHMEN, Mark see's Dr. Manhatten arrive in London

24 hours away from WATCHMEN and I find myself encouraged by reading the last paragraph of Roger Ebert's review which once again delves into what I've been hearing most about this movie from those who have seen it. It's an experience. And something you simply have to check out for yourself. Whether you like it or not, it's one of those movies...

The film is rich enough to be seen more than once. I plan to see it again, this time on IMAX, and will have more to say about it. I€™m not sure I understood all the nuances and implications, but I am sure I had a powerful experience. It€™s not as entertaining as €œThe Dark Knight,€ but like the €œMatrix€ films, LOTR and €œThe Dark Knight,€ it€™s going to inspire fevered analysis. I don€™t want to see it twice for that reason, however, but mostly just to have the experience again.
OWF's Mark Clark was in London last night to witness Dr. Manhatten's arrival in the capital. Here is his report... Wagamama beats Dr Manhattan' '8pm, March 4 2009, London, and the Watchmen promotional campaign took a unique turn as a barge in the middle of the Thames spewed out a screen of water to showcase a floating Dr Manhattan and some clips from the trailer, all approximately 70 feet high. As a marketing exercise it wasn't perhaps the greatest success due to a breeze fragmenting and blurring the images, but it was at least interesting, even though the assembled viewers on a freezing cold Hungerford Bridge did end up resembling the blue-hued hero. It didn't help that things were slightly behind schedule either as we stared at alternate images of Dr Manhattan and the Smiley Badge for at least 15 mins before any clips appeared; interspersed with comments about screensavers and Powerpoint. There was a neat looking projection of the Smiley Face on the Shell building, but after it became apparent that we were about to be presented with another round of the same watery clips, the cold and hunger won out. As a chap standing next to me said to his girlfriend, 'Ok, that's it, Wagamama beats Dr Manhattan..'.
