Romero begins shooting ISLAND OF THE DEAD

Wisdom seems to have prevailed on behalf of George A. Romero, the veteran horror director who has decided against shooting a sequel to his most confused zombie film yet, 2007's DIARY OF THE DEAD, instead deciding to begin work on what we believe will be called ISLAND OF THE DEAD. AICN's Herc claims he coined the name, although it's a pretty obvious title when you hear the plot is about a group of victims trying to escape an island of zombies. And yeah, it has a catchy ring to it. Curiously, two years ago Romero had agreed to direct SOLITARY ISLAND, a $25 million thriller based on the Japanese short story written by the author of THE RING and DARK WATER novels. The movie was described as the story of an expedition to a deserted island that turned deadly when the explorers face an unknown force. Romero was set do direct that in late 06 before switching gears to make DIARY OF THE DEAD. Now it seems he has taken the island idea and converted it to zombies, surprise surprise huh? Cast is made up of unknowns... Alan Van Sprang, Kenneth Welsh, Kathleen Munroe, Devon Bostick, Richard Fitzpatrick, Stefano Colacitti and Athena Karkanis.
