Rush Hour 3 still popular, just not as popular as before
Slash Film are once again tracking the Friday Box Office numbers in the US and it would appear that Rush Hour 3 is to debut with an estimated $49.8 million opening weekend after taking in an impressive $17.8 million on it's first day of release. Although that estimate is down from the second movie by about $17 million, it's still pretty impressive for a third outing which looked to deliver nothing new than the previous two flicks. I'd say though, the chances of a Rush Hour 4 being greenlit with those numbers are not all that great. It's a good opening but not one that automatically says sequel, especially with a drop of $17 million and some truly awful reviews.

Matthew Vaughn's fantasy comedy Stardust has seriously bombed for Paramount. Despite having a cast that includes Robert De Niro, Michelle Pfeiffer, Peter O'Toole, Sienna Miller the $70 million budgeted film took home only $3 million on Friday. That's a disaster and it will really struggle to make $10 million for an opening weekend which needed to be at least double that. Although it was well reviewed, it has to go down to the awful trailer that I've seen a few times now on the big screen and it looked bloody awful. A fantasy/comedy flick was always going to be a hard sell and I'm not sure they did a good job with it. Someone badly screwed up there because a fantasy movie from Matthew Vaughn is something I should have been dying to see.
