Russell Crowe Confirms Original Plans For Man Of Steel Sequels
And boy, should you wish they'd happened.
Imagine a world where Man Of Steel 2 came out rather than Batman v Superman. And now imagine a world where it was a far more welcome sequel in hindsight than the messy ensemble Zack Snyder put together in its place. It's almost unfathomable that we'd be in that world right now.
The story goes that Warner Bros pulled the plan for Batman v Superman out of their backsides as an alternative to Man Of Steel 2, concerned that they needed to go bigger and better. It wasn't a terrible idea, but allowing Zack Snyder to helm it absolutely was, so it doesn't really matter what film they released.
Anyway, Russell Crowe has now confirmed to Digital Spy that there were plans for more than one Man Of Steel sequel, rather than Batman v Superman. He spoke on the publicity circuit for The New Guys:
"Originally I could be completely wrong I think there was a number of Superman movies. But I think they made the decision to jump past those and go to the idea of Batman and Superman in the same film. So, no, I didnt have any discussions about that at all."
It's shame we didn't get to see Superman in his court room drama as a stand-alone movie, with Lex Luthor pulling the strings. That didn't need Batman - it just needed a competent director.
Whether we'll actually see another stand-alone Superman with Henry Cavill remains to be seen (we should, he's excellent, despite everything. But as long as Snyder moves on, there should still be space for the Man of Steel to get more movies.
