Samuel L Jackson Teases His Captain Marvel Appearance
So he won't be dead meat then?
It's been a while since we saw Nick Fury in the MCU. Last time, he was hanging out in Hawkeye's barn, avoiding questions on what he's actually doing underground while the rest of the superhero community goes up in smoke. Is he building a team? Is he biding his time? Or has he adopted a new life fixing tractors for a meagre, quiet existence?
Well, now we have some idea of what the future holds for the former head of S.H.I.E.L.D. as Samuel L Jackson has been talking about his plans for the rest of Phase 3.
Because nobody can get through a single interview these days without somehow mentioning a comic book movie, We Got This Covered sat down with him to talk about Kong: Skull Island, so inevitably Nick Fury popped up.
Jackson confirmed why Fury won't be appearing in Black Panther (much to his apparent chagrin), but that he will appear in Infinity War and then also Captain Marvel. And he wants his own movie for Fury, obviously...
"Yeah, I’d love to do a Nick Fury movie. I’m always open and game. But they got Infinity Wars, two movies to do there, and after that there’s Brie [Larson’s] movie Captain Marvel, which maybe [Nick] will be part of. Also, I asked them, “So you’re doing Black Panther and the only black character in the Marvel Universe is not showing up?” And they’re like, “Nick Fury is not in Wakanda!” How can he not know the other black superhero on the planet? How the hell does that work? But they just said, 'No you’re not in that one.'"
Nice little dig there at Marvel's lack of diversity... Though War Machine, Mordo, Luke Cage and Falcon are presumably not going to be very happy with being relegated out of existence.
Maybe Fury will play a part in recruiting Captain Marvel to the Avengers team? Is that even really still a thing now that Cap has gone underground himself? Lots of questions here, people.
