Yahoo Movies have released the first poster for Seeking a Friend for the End of the World, the darkly themed Focus Features dramedy that pairs Steve Carell and Keira Knightley. Set in a not too distant future, the movie follows an unlikely friendship/romance between a guy (Carell) and a younger female neighbour (Knightley) as they set out to find the formers high school sweetheart on the eve of an apocalypse. The indie film marks the directorial debut of Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist screenwriter Lorene Scafaria and is a project co-star Keira Knightley has talked up greatly in interviews, telling The Playlist last month; "It's about what happens when you know you've only got about twenty days until an asteroid hits Earth, and what happens to society in that time. It's a very, very dark comedy. It's also weirdly for its subject matter incredibly optimistic and sort of life-affirming. I thought it was one of the best scripts I've read, really," Seeking a Friend For the End of the World is scheduled for a June 22nd release and could be a tearjerker. Carell and Knightley have become astute at picking interesting and films with plenty of pathos lately, so we have high hopes for this. Even if the poster itself is a little disappointing.
