Sigourney Weaver Doesn't Play The Same Character In Avatar Sequels

How will her role "evolve" in the forthcoming movies?

While promoting Chappie on the Jonathan Ross show, Sigourney Weaver fielded the inevitable questions about Alien 5 and Avatars 2, 3 and 4. She had nothing new to add on the Alien movie, but maybe she did shine some new light on the Avatar sequels. As you'll see in this clip, Weaver said "I don't play the same character."Without spoiling Avatar for those of you born in the last four years, there were only a handful of ways in which Weaver could be coming back as the same character. Perhaps James Cameron's previous comment, that Weaver's role will "evolve" is the key to this. I've been hearing people say "Swamp Thing" and "Avatar sequel" in the same paragraph for a few years now, and I wonder if that the puzzle doesn't have a very simple solution. I guess it all depends on what you mean by "the same character," I suppose. Of course, Weaver could well play an all-new role, perhaps a member of the Na'vi, or potentially another, hitherto unseen alien species. She wouldn't have to be recognisable, or even physically comparable to Grace Augustine's Avatar, and it's all about Cameron casting the actress he wants for the role and changing things up with the performance capture appearance to make the new character distinct from what came before. Production on all three films kicks off, as Weaver said, later this year. I, for one, am very excited and interested to see where this goes next.
